Several preparations are in progress to celebrate Madaraka Day on June 1, 2024, at the Masinde Muliro Stadium in Bungoma County.

In a statement, Bungoma governor Kenneth Lusaka made his way to Masinde Muliro in the late hours of the night of May 20, 2024, confirming that preparations for the big celebration were running smoothly.

“Braved the evening chill to oversee the final preparations at Masinde Muliro Stadium, Kanduyi, ensuring everything is flawless for the country’s 61st June Madaraka Day celebrations,” Lusaka shared.

Madaraka Day’s theme for this year is “Promoting Agriculture and Food Security,” with Bungoma County having food for export as well as for local consumption, thus making it an ideal location for hosting the event.

Previously, in a welcome address, Bungoma County Governor, Kenneth Lusaka, encouraged residents to promote their businesses and other activities that would benefit their livelihoods, as well as being responsible county ambassadors ahead of the celebrations.

A few weeks ago, the principal secretary of the interior, Raymond Omollo disclosed that Bungoma was best fit to celebrate because of its various cultures.

On May 20, 2024, PS Omollo accompanied by Principal Secretary (Defense) Patrick Mariru, made a tour overseeing the preparations on Masinde Muliro and related facilities.

“To ensure a seamless success of the forthcoming Madaraka Day celebrations, Bungoma County, together with Bungoma Governor @SpeakerKLusaka  and my colleague Ps @pmariru (Defence) today, on an assessment and inspection tour, we visited Masinde Muliro Stadium and related facilities,” PS Omollo stated.

The celebration comes in line with a request that was made by President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2016 citing that two out of Kenya’s three national days will be hosted on a rotational basis by counties outside Nairobi.

In the directive, Nairobi County, which had traditionally hosted the national celebration of the National Days, was said to be left with only one event per year.

To enhance national cohesion and integration, President Kenyatta announced three National Days: Madaraka Day on June 1 and Mashujaa Day on October 20.

In 2023, Kenyans turned up in thousands for Madaraka Day celebrations that were held at Embu Moi Stadium.
