Christmas – time when schedules ease up and allow loved ones to spend time together
By People Team, December 22, 2019
Christmas is a time when schedules ease up (others pile up) and allow loved ones to spend time together. GRACE WACHIRA and CHEBET KORIR talk with a few showbiz celebrities to find out how they will celebrate the holidays
Abel Mutua
The brains behind some of the great local TV shows, Mutua will be busy at work this festive season.
“Unfortunately, we have some projects that are not yet done and we cannot afford to take a break,” says the filmmaker.
However, he notes proper plans are already in place for the family celebrations.
“Our daughter will spend time with her grandparents and enjoy Christmas with them while my wife and I ensure we make ends meet from this side of the country,” he said, adding he will take a break after the current projects are done.
Jackie Vike (Awinja)
The renowned actress-cum-radio presenter will celebrate Christmas from the comfort of her home with family.
“Last year, we went on holiday and it was absolutely amazing. This year, however, we will be kicking it at home.
I think I will be on air on December 24, so that means we will have to enjoy each other’s company as a family thoroughly in Nairobi.
It’s good to switch things up once in a while,” she laughed,” says the popular Papa Shirandula actress.
Butita
For funnyman Butita, his wish is to spend more and precious time time with his loved ones, but he says work must be done.
“I will be Nairobi with family on the 25th and back to work almost immediately,” says the Churchill Show comic.
DJ Joe Mfalme
“I have back-to-back gigs all through this week. In fact, this is one of the seasons that I am busiest and I thank God for it,” says the spinmaster.
For him, as is always every year, he gets to rock parties and make the festivities enjoyable for revellers. “That does not to mean I will not take a break and relax.
The first week of January always has me take a break; just the first week then I am back on the grind. After all, I need to pay the bills,” he says.
Moji Shortbabaa
Moji Shortbaba’s holiday time with family depends on how much he has on his plate. For him, says the Vimbada hit singer, Christmas is about spending time with his siblings and grandmother.
“Our mother is departed and so, our grandmother, is our guardian,” he intimates. His family has atradition.
They meet up at their grandmother’s house for merry-making. In previous years, he has had concert bookings during the Christmas period and that used to limit his interaction with the family.
“In my line of duty, I get a lot of bookings and it eats up my family time, but when all the dust settles, we go hard and enjoy each other’s company,” Moji beamed.
DJ Crème De La Crème
According to the decks man and the face behind Esko Wear, Christmas is all about spending some great moments with family.
“On Christmas day, I will have lunch with my family and extended relatives. After that, we will visit the Coast to just relax.”
He, however, says he has a couple of gigs lined-up, but some quality time with his family is more than important.
KRG The Don
The musician and head honcho at the Fast Cash Music says that he does not celebrate Christmas, but some time out in Naivasha for a breather would work for him in a time like this.
“I am Muslim but some mbuzi in Naivasha would be ideal.” He, however, remains optimistic the year 2020 will be memorable as he plans to release an album on which he has collaborated with some of the best artistes in the game.
Khaligraph Jones
According to the self-proclaimed ‘Best Rapper in Africa’, it is harvest time for him. “This week is loaded with back-to-back shows for me.
In fact, they ran through out the festive period and so, unfortunately, I will be working throughout this Christmas,” he says, emphasising that the celebrations will come once he secures the bag.
“I need to make money, take care of the family and then, we can all take a well-deserved break.
That said, when the schedule eases, we will enjoy a belated Christmas,” says the Khali Cartel hit rapper.
