Children thank President Uhuru for Christmas treat

More than 250 children, who joined thousands others for the President’s Children Christmas Party want President Uhuru Kenyatta to know how the rare invitation to State House made them feel.

The children from Child Welfare Society of Kenya (CWSK) yesterday expressed gratitude to the President for choosing to share his Christmas with the vulnerable in society.

In the company of CWSK chief executive Irene Mureithi and a trustee Haida Bruno, the children and staff spent the day they described as memorable and “the best in their life” together with the First Family who went out of their way to organise a grand celebration for more than 5,000 children to mark the start of this year’s Christmas and New Year festivities.

The event, characterised by song and dance and tens of age-appropriate games and sports, kicked off with the national anthem at 9am and went on until 8pm.

Fun activities

The children were let free to enjoy the day as they saw fit, engaging in various fun activities ranging from bouncing castles, chess, bike rides, skating, dancing and singing.

Grace Makasi, 10, says: “I was excited by everything. State House is a fun place and I visited every corner and ate new foods.

I played, took photos and got a gift from the President. I thank the President for remembering us and giving us gifts. I will want to go back again”.

Isabela Anyango, 15, who says the experience felt like she was in Wonderland, said, “I thank God for giving us the best President ever.

May God continue protecting and give him many years to witness His goodness.”

She said her dream of becoming the best musician and news anchor felt achievable after entering State House.

“I am happy that children without families have someone who remembers them out there.

Being at State House made me feel loved and wanted,” said 17-year-old Jenifer Njeri.

Mureithi said the whole experience was out of this world. “The lives of all the children who were there are forever transformed.

They will never forget what it felt like to be so close to the President. There can be no better way to celebrate Christmas.”

The highlight of the celebrations were the firecrackers that rented the air after the President’s wishes to the children after 7pm.

There were loud cheers, screams and laughter as the children enjoyed the overwhelming splendor of light and colours before their eyes.
