Children safety recommended as KPSEA tests, holidays begin
As school children return home for a two-month long holiday, parents and guardians have been tipped to monitor and guide them to ensure they are safe till schools reopen.
Kisii Central Kenya Primary school Heads Association ( Kepsha) chairman, Alfred Mosota challenged the parents and guardians to keep their children busy so that they do not join bad companies and ruin their lives.
The official, Kisii University Comprehensive School Principal, appealed to the parents to stay with their children and inculcate moral values in them to help them grow responsibly and be accountable for their actions.
“Parents should ensure that the children help them in household work and they go to church for spiritual nourishment” Mosota said during the graduation of PP2 children to Grade one at the school yesterday.
He implored the parents not to allow children to go to stay with relatives, noting, it will be difficult to guide and counsel them if they mess up. The Principal asked the parents to support their children with required learning materials to enable them exploit their potential in the Competence Based Curriculum ( CBC).
“I urge parents with children to write Kenya Primary School Education Assessment ( KPSEA) Tests to support them as they prepare” Mosota noted.
Address problems Dr Rhoda Auni, Kisii University lecturer who graced the event challenged parents and guardians to be closer to their children and address their problems to strengthen their bond. She appealed to parents and guardians to be role models to their children and encourage them to enable them to exploit their potential in education and talents, adding, there is power in the words they utter to their children.
“ I challenge parents and guardians to invest in the education of their children. It is a treasure,” Dr Auni said.
In Machakos, the preparations for the Kenya Primary Schools Education Assessment KPSEA test in Matungulu sub-county,were completed yesterday.
Area Deputy County Commissioner Everlyne Wekesa said the candidates are ready to sit for the exams that begin today and end on Wednesday.
“The rest is now left to the candidates. They have prepared for these questions for several years so they need not panic. We have discouraged them against engaging in examinations irregularities,” she said.
“ She also said tough rules meant to curb cheating in national examinations are in force. Ms Wekesa said her office is working with other government agencies to ensure the examination is credible .Cheating is a thing of past,”she said.
Ms Wekesa said all steps necessary to ensure smooth running and credibility of the 2024 examinations have been taken in examination centres across the sub-county. She also warned that anyone who attempts to cause mayhem will face the full force of law.
