Operations at the National Land Commission (NLC) have not stalled as reported in the media, Chief Executive Officer Kabale Tache has said.

Responding to a story we carried yesterday, Tache, while appreciating that the commission was facing financial challenges, said the problem was not only an NLC issue but applies to other agencies.

“While we acknowledge the financial challenges the commission faces, work at the Commission has not stalled and we were very clear on this in our response,” Tache (pictured) said in a statement.

She continued: “But work at the commission has not and will not stop. We continue serving Kenyans as is expected of us.”

Tache said the commission was working with partners to carry out some of its programmes, adding that the partners have immensely supported the commission.

She said: “We are very grateful to them. We look forward to continuing working with them in areas of mutual interest.”

She said that commission’s lawyers had not failed to attend court due to lack of stipends.
“As we stated in our response, budget constraints is not unique to NLC. It cuts across the entire government. The attempt to make it look like only NLC is impacted is far from the truth,” she explained.

On the issue of lack of a substantive Director of Valuation & Taxation, Tache said the former director was not suspended but was recalled by her substantive employer, the Kenya Wildlife Service.
