Caroli Omondi: We are not impressed with the blanket condemnation of parliament on corruption

By , August 20, 2025

Suba South MP Caroli Omondi has expressed dissatisfaction with what he terms a blanket condemnation of the parliament on graft.

Speaking during a vernacular TV show on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, Caroli indicated that President William Ruto should have named the individuals involved in corruption instead of leaving the entire image of the legislature in disrepute.

“The problem of corruption is widespread. What I am unhappy about is the manner in which the head of state described parliament as a place where there are all manner of bad people,” Caroli said.

Name and shame

“As the head of state, whatever he says spreads to all corners of the world, and that is how many people now know Kenya. What the president ought to have done is to name the individuals involved in the bribery and present evidence to that effect.”

He equally challenged Ruto to present the evidence on the alleged misconduct to the relevant investigation bodies in the country to deal with the errant persons.

“Alternatively, he should have presented the evidence to agencies like the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) or the Powers and Privileges Committee to deal with the errant legislators,” Caroli added.

Blanket condemnation

“Those of us who are not involved in corruption are not impressed with the blanket condemnation of the house.”

The legislator stressed the importance of individual accountability over blanket condemnation of all parliamentarians.

“If somebody is guilty, let them be charged on their own. But an attack such as the one that he’s made twice, three times, first at the Stock Exchange, Devolution Conference in Homa Bay, and yesterday at our PG,” he stated.

He also criticised Ruto for labelling all MPs as corrupt extortionists, despite many supporting the President in crucial matters.

“It is so unfortunate that a statement condemning all of us as corrupt extortionists, yet some of us have held the sharp end of the knife to support him, is something that we cannot accept,” Omondi told the House.
