Calls for more ICT expert training to combat cybercrime

Information and Communication Technology (ICT) professionals have called for the training of more experts in the sector to deal with emerging cyber security threats in the country.

Led by ISACA Kenya President Mercy Omollo, the professionals emphasised there was need to train more ICT practitioners, especially on cyber security to improve the country’s capacity to tackle cybercrime. Omolo noted that shortage of skilled human resource remains a major challenge to Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC), leaving many organisations grappling with cyber security threats.

Speaking during a GRC conference in Kisumu town at the weekend, Omollo noted that there is  a shortage of ICT experts in emerging areas of cyber security, there by exposing the country’s systems to attacks. Consequently, she urged for more investments tailored towards the training of ICT professionals.

“We can be able to adapt to some of the emerging threats by training and retooling of more ICT professionals. Additionally, such measures will help us fill the gap in GRC,” she said.

Moses Kariuki, a board member at ISACA Kenya, said organisations have to formulate measures to increase governance and information management in the face of technology upgrade.
