Caleb Amisi calls out hypocrisy portrayed by leaders in Raila’s burial
Saboti Member of Parliament Caleb Amisi has sharply criticised leaders who appeared to lavish praise on the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga during his funeral, accusing them of hypocrisy after years of betraying him in life.
In a strongly worded statement shared on his social media platforms on Tuesday, October 22, 2025, Amisi recalled moments when he and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino stood by Raila during his quest for electoral justice, at a time when many of those now mourning him were mocking and ridiculing him.
“In August 2017, Hon. Babu Owino and I escorted Baba like bodyguards to the Supreme Court to seek justice for his stolen victory when he was left to fight for himself,” Amisi recounted.

He accused several leaders who spoke passionately at Raila’s funeral in Bondo of being the very people who tormented and betrayed him during his lifetime.
“Those who were speaking and shouting at his funeral in Bondo were his tormentors. Hypocrites have successfully buried you, Jakom!” Amisi wrote.
The outspoken legislator vowed to continue championing Raila’s ideals and the struggle for justice and equality in Kenya, promising that his legacy would not fade.
“Baba, while alive, we never let you walk alone in the corridors of justice; we shall not let you down even in death. The struggle for a better Kenya continues! Aluta continua. Viva! Kenya needs a renaissance,” he said

Hypocrisy during Raila’s funeral
Saboti MP Caleb Amisi is not the only leader who has raised concerns about hypocrisy during the burial of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
Kisii Governor and ODM Deputy Party Leader Simba Arati also spoke out during the funeral ceremony in Bondo, accusing some of the mourners of pretending to honour Raila in death while having despised and undermined him during his lifetime.
Arati, who was among the leaders who worked closely with Raila within the ODM party, expressed deep disappointment over what he termed as “political pretence and double standards” displayed by some politicians who filled the funeral grounds with praise yet had spent years plotting against Raila’s leadership.
He also started that some of the leaders who were purporting to mourn the late prime minister wanted him dead long ago
Kipruto Arap Kirwa, while appearing on a morning show, also accused President William Ruto of hypocrisy, saying that in the run-up to the 2022 General Election, the President was strongly opposed to Raila Odinga. He went on to slam Ruto for mocking those who used to refer to Raila as “Baba”, questioning whether they did not have fathers of their own, yet during the funeral, the same president over and over again referred to Raila as “Baba”.
