Cabinet rescinds decision to abolish TVET certification
The government has rescinded the decision to abolish the Technical and Vocational Education and Training – Curriculum Development Assessment and Certification Council (TVET-CDACC).
The Cabinet has since directed reinstatement of the institution’s mandate, functions and operations.
“This means that TVET-CDACC will now be tasked with the designing and development of learner-centred, demand-driven, industry-led TVET curricula for the training institutions’ examination, assessment and competence certification,” the Cabinet resolved in its meeting held on Tuesday.
According to the Cabinet, the measure will secure examinations, assessment and competence certification as the lynch-pin for the Government’s transformative plan for the country espoused as the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).
The previous government had transferred the functions to TVET-CDACC to the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) and the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KCID).
The Ministry of Education constituted a committee to foresee the transfer and was at an advanced stage.
In a circular dated September 12, National Polytechnics, TVET and Vocational college directors and principals were informed of the suspension of licensing of TVET-CDACC courses and training.
The TVET Authority, which issued the circular said the functions of CBET curriculum and support materials development and competence assessment and certification had been transferred to newly established Directorates in KNEC and KICD, respectively.
