Bomet governor, Hillary Barchok, has honoured the summons placed against him by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) by appearing at the commission’s offices this Monday, September 1, 2025.

Conspicuously clad in a navy blue jacket and a cap, Barchok made his way into the EACC offices at around 4:00 pm, accompanied by a group of suited men, considered to be his legal team, also in the entourage.

Summoned

The second-time governor, who rose to the county helm in August 2019 and was later re-elected in 2022 for his second and final term, had been directed to appear before EACC headquarters on Monday, September 1, 2025.

The summons follows EACC remarks revealing that it had received consent from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) to charge him alongside several associates and company directors linked to his case.

His presence at the commission comes after former Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wangamati also appeared before the commission office at the Integrity Centre this Monday, September 1, 2025.

Wangamati and Barchok were among more than ten co-persons of interest named by the EACC to appear before it.

According to EACC, Barchok faces charges of conflict of interest in relation to dealings between the County Government of Bomet and a private company.

Evans Korir, a director of a construction company, is also a person of interest in the charges facing Barchok.

“Today, Friday, 29th August 2025, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) received CONSENT from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to charge the following: 1. Investigation into allegations of conflict of interest against the Governor, County Government of Bomet: Hillary Kipng’eno Barchok – Governor, County Government of Bomet; and ii. Evans Kipkoech Korir – Director, Chemasus Construction Limited,” the EACC statement read in part.

Others on the summons list related to Wangamati’s case are Michael Simiyu Wangamati, Edward Barasa Wangamati, and Nicholas Wangamati.

Edward Maaya Makhanu, Sandra Soita Nasambu, Juma Swaleh Juma, Jimmy Wekesa Barasa, and Joseph Wanyonyi Khaemba have also been summoned.
