Christ Is the Answer Ministries’ (CITAM) Bishop Emeritus David Oginde  has supported the decision by mainstream religious organisations to ban politicians  from advancing their political agenda in places of worship ahead of next year’s polls. 

The  ban was necessitated by heightened political activities with politicians hopping from one church to another campaigning and dishing out cash. 

Oginde said some leaders had taken over the churches to preach hate.  “When a patient visits a hospital, he doesn’t sit on the doctor’s seat, our sick patients want to dictate what the doctor should say and what they should be medicated with, this is wrong,” he said. 

Speaking in Nakuru yesterday during a leadership fellowship at CITAM church, bringing together local leaders in the county, the cleric said the ban on political utterances in churches was not a complete ban to leaders not to attend as worshippers. 

Echoing the same sentiments, Campaigners Fellowship Bishop Simon Wanjohi said they want to bring all churches together and pull towards common goals to realise the aspirations of the people and see how best the church will be integrated in politics.  

Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui urge his fellow leaders and the nation at large to respect places of worship and allow congregants to be ministered to without politics.  

“Most leaders are religious only on Sundays and go back to their real self for the rest of the week when they are supposed to serve the people,” said Kinyanjui.
