Billy Mwangi announces his 2027 Embu senatorial quest during PRJC launch

By , June 24, 2025

Billy Mwangi has announced his intention to run for the Embu County senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections.

The announcement came during the launch of the People’s Restorative Justice Commission (PRJC), held at Ufungamano House in Nairobi on Tuesday, June 24, 2025. The event was presided over by opposition leaders.

Billy, who was abducted on December 21, 2024, and released in January 2025, recounted his ordeal during the gathering.

He revealed that he was seized while at a barbershop and taken to an undisclosed location where he was tortured, beaten repeatedly, and denied food for several days. He was later released with Ksh2,000 for transport back home.

He linked his survival and political ambition to divine intervention, stating that the same God who kept him alive would enable his victory in 2027.

“I will be vying for the senatorial seat in Embu County, and for those who believe in me in Embu hata kama wengine wanasema siwezi, my friend, the God who brought me back alive is the one who will give me that win,” Billy said.

During his speech, Billy criticised the increasing cases of abduction in the country and called for an end. He expressed hope that the next government, which he believes will be formed by the Gen Z generation, will bring an end to such practices. He dismissed claims that Gen Z lacks voting power, asserting that young people will be the main decision-makers in the next elections.

Message to opposition leaders

He further urged opposition leaders to include young people in governance should they assume power in 2027, insisting that the youth deserve a voice in leadership and decision-making.

“I hope, please, the next government that we will form, as Gen Zs, hii upuzi hatutaki, na wale wanadhani Gen Zs hatuna kura, my friend. Sisi ndio tunaamua nani anakua govenor, senator, or MP, so for the next government, please give us a chance because we are the people,” he added.

During the same event, former attorney general JB Muturi, Makueni senator Dan Maanzo, political activist Fredrick Ogolla, and PLP secretary general Ashar Bashir were sworn in as commissioners for the newly launched commission, which aims to advocate for justice in society.
