AFC Leopards’ quest to end their 22-year title drought in the top flight looks to have received a huge boost after its players were promised houses in the event they lift the 2020/21 league title.

Speaking at a luncheon hosted by the club patron and  presidential hopeful Musalia Mudavadi in Nairobi, Leopards chairman Dan Shikanda promised his charges that if they win the league this season all team members will get a house in Nairobi.

“Win this league, especially this and next year, and I promise you everyone will go home with a house.

If you do not own a house in Nairobi, win this league for AFC Leopards,” said Shikanda in a passionate appeal to his players and the technical bench,  adding the prize money from the league title sponsors will be shared amongst the team members.

Stated he: “I promised you (players) salaries when we were experiencing hard times when Covid-19 had just hit and it came to pass.

I know we have not stabilised but I love making history and this is something I am keen on achieving.

The Head of State is a supporter of the club and so is his mother and they have previously supported the team with assets.”

Shikanda further indicated that they have partners who are keen on investing in the team but want to see good results from the former premier league champions.

After 56 years, Shikanda said it is time for the team to have their own club house and a training ground.

Ingwe had a turbulent to the 2020/21 BetKing Premier start where, despite winning their opening match 2-1 against Tusker FC, their head coach Tomas Trucha hastily resigned alleging threats to his Nigerian agent Prince Channiss.

As such, former Kenyan international Antony Kimani was forced to resume his role as head coach in acting capacity.

This is the second time Kimani is holding the position in the same capacity after leading the team following the exit of Rwandese coach Casa Mbongo in December 2019.

After seven matches, the 13-time league champions are fourth with 15 points, six behind leaders KCB.  AFC have won five and lost two.
