Barasa probed by EACC, denies any violation at Ketraco

Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa emerged yesterday after a two-day session with Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) detectives, to maintain his innocence.
Barasa said the Kenya Electricity Transmission Company (Ketraco), where he served as chief executive did not procure the skewed contract that resulted in Sh18 billion penalty payment to private investors for delays in implementing the contract.

“Your governor is safe. Your governor did not leave a scandal at Ketraco and I’m ready to go back to the EACC to give any information on this matter whenever required,” Barasa told a press briefing in Kakamega.
He said contrary to public perception that a monumental scandal was hatched under his watch, investigations will clear him.
He said the investigation will unravel the cause of the penalties paid by Kenya Power company to Turkana Winds for delays in the implementing the wind power contract and the real actors.
Barasa was grilled by EACC detectives for two days on Monday and Tuesday. He had a marathon ten-hour session between 8.30am and 9.30pm Monday and returned on Tuesday for another seven hours session with the sleuths.
However, Barasa did not discuss expressly the contents of the two sessions.
