Babu Owino: My security officer has been arrested and assaulted

By , February 25, 2026

Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino has raised alarm over the claimed arrest and assault of his security officer by officers attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), terming the incident deeply troubling.

In a statement on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, the lawmaker revealed that his security officer, Oliver, and Oliver’s wife were arrested under unclear circumstances.

“I have received deeply troubling news that my security officer, Oliver, and his wife were arrested today and reportedly assaulted by rogue officers attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI). As of now, the charges against them remain unknown,” Owino wrote on Facebook.

The MP condemned what he described as intimidation and unlawful actions by officers mandated to enforce the law, emphasising that no Kenyan should face mistreatment at the hands of security agencies.

“No Kenyan should be subjected to intimidation, unlawful arrest, or violence by those entrusted to uphold the law,” he stated.

Owino called for immediate transparency from the investigative agency, demanding clarity on the reasons behind the arrest and assurances about the couple’s safety.

“We demand immediate transparency regarding the reasons for their arrest, confirmation of their safety, and that due process be followed in accordance with the Constitution of Kenya,” he added.

Political interference

This comes two days after the vocal legislator raised fresh concerns about political interference, following the arrest of his security officers in Kisumu ahead of the Linda Mwananchi rally in Kakamega.

In a post on X on Sunday, February 22, 2026, he said the officers remain in custody with no information on charges.

“Yesterday, my security officers were arrested by the police in Kisumu. Up to this moment, they have not been released, and the charges against them remain unknown,” he wrote.

The arrests come amid heightened political activity. Babu has actively criticised the administration and participated in opposition events, including rallies with Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna.

Earlier in the week, he accused authorities of abducting his brother-in-law, Geoffrey Ajiki, by officers he claimed to be from the DCI.

Babu said Ajiki called him around 4 pm to report that six DCI officers had picked him up and were taking him to Nairobi Area Police Headquarters.

He later confirmed Ajiki’s release at 4 am and drop-off in Machakos but described the episode as unlawful and politically motivated.
