Kalonzo, Azimio leaders visit Moi family, pay tribute to departed June Chebet

Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka on Friday led other Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition party leaders in consoling the family of former President the late Daniel Moi over the death of June Chebet.

Chebet, who was Moi’s adopted daughter and the last born out of his eight children, died on Thursday, April 11, 2024.

Kalonzo termed Chebet a vibrant and full of life person who always had time for anyone irrespective of office and political affiliation.

“This afternoon, I visited the family of the second President of the Republic of Kenya, Daniel arap Moi at Karbarnet Gardens, Nairobi and condoled with them following the sudden passing of June Chebet,” Kalonzo stated.

Kalonzo was accompanied by the ODM party Deputy Leader Wycliffe Oparanya, DAP Kenya Party Leader Eugene Wamalwa, Usawa Kwa Wote Party Leader Mwangi wa Iria, Machakos Senator Agnes Muthama and EALA MP Kennedy Musyoka.

“I remember June as being vibrant and full of life. She always had time for anyone irrespective of office and political affiliation. To my brothers Senator Gideon Moi, Raymond Moi and family, the most valuable heritage is that of brother/sisterhood and we are here to assure you of our unwavering support at this most difficult time. May God rest June’s soul in eternal peace,” Kalonzo added.

On Thursday, while announcing Chebet’s death, the family requested privacy as it comes to terms with her death.

“We are deeply saddened to announce the passing on of our beloved, June Chebet Moi this morning. At this time of grief, we request your prayers and privacy as we the family come to terms with the tragic loss of our sister. May her soul rest in eternal peace,” the family stated.

In his condolence message, President William Ruto prayed for the family to have strength as it navigates the trying times.

“My heartfelt condolences to the family of the late President Daniel Arap Moi over the loss of June Chebet Moi. May God give you strength at this difficult time. Rest In Peace June,” Ruto said.

June Chebet was adopted by the former president and cared for as part of the family.

She attended Nairobi Primary, Kenya High School and then moved on to university in Canada.

Chebet, who was a businesswoman, died at the age of 60.

The family did not reveal the cause of her death.
