Avoid blanket condemnation of police over brutality, says retired officer

A retired senior police officer Daniel Mutuku has commended community policing in Mwala sub-county, Machakos county saying the initiative has addressed security challenges in the region.
Mutuku at the same time urged Kenyans to work closely with the police in crime prevention.
He said the National Police Service should not all be condemned for the crimes of a few errant officers who were giving the force bad name.
The police force has come under attack from the Gen-Z movement, civil society and even the media for the brutality they unleashed on innocent Kenyans during the four week long demos which left over 40 protestors killed and hundreds injured, majority at them of trigger happy police officers.
Hardest working
“The National Police Service is one of hardest working government agencies. People should not take just one example of a bad officer and generalise that the Police Service is rotten,” Mutuku told People Daily yesterday.
