‘Mathee wa Ngara’ fate on bail

The court is set to determine the bail application in the Ksh18.3 million bhang trafficking case involving Mathee wa Ngara whose real name is Nancy Kigunzu and 3 co-accused.

She is charged alongside Teresa Wanjiru and two others including a minor.

During the previous hearing, Kizungu collapsed in court forcing the judge to adjourn the hearing with her legal team arguing out her bail application.

Notably, during the proceedings journalists and family members who were in court remained outside since one of the suspects is a minor.

Meanwhile, the Assets Recovery Agency (ARA) has obtained orders from the High Court to freeze Ksh13.4 million seized from Kizungu.

The judge also ordered that the funds be deposited in a preservation account at Kenya Commercial Bank at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre branch belonging to the Assets Recovery Agency (ARA) and a certified copy of the deposit slip be filed in court as proof.

Ex-Lari MP graft case hearing

Former Lari MP Jonah Mburu and six others are expected to appear at the Milimani anti-corruption court today for a hearing of an alleged Ksh28 million graft case.

The former lawmaker is facing charges over alleged misuse of millions in the CDF kitty.

Mburu was first arrested in September 2020 by EACC following approval from the then Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji.

The DPP listed the MP alongside his company Pambazuko Distributors Limited, Ayaan Mahadhi an accounts Manager of the CDF, Peter Mugo Mwangi (CDF Chairman and proprietor of two firms), Francis Gachoka Kimuyu (CDF Clerk who is also a director of Kimondo and Sons General Supplies).

The MP and the CDF officials are accused of conflict of interest, by letting their companies trade with the constituency fund.

DPP noted that they will face charges of conspiracy to commit corruption, conflict of interest, abuse of office, willful failure to comply with procurement laws, dealing with suspect property and acting without authorization.

KDF Recruitment continues

Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) nationwide recruitment continues across the country.

The KDF targets to recruit Kenyans in three broad categories namely officer cadets, recruits and Defence Forces Constables in 374 recruitment centres across the 47 counties.

Prospective recruits will be undertaken through rigorous physical exercises and medical examinations to determine interviewees’ suitability to join the army.

Meanwhile, KDF has warned members of the public against bribery through Short Message Service (SMS) where on Monday, KDF top brass reiterated that any corrupt case will be dealt with firmly during the exercise that runs until September 8.

Since the exercise began, various stations have reported low turnout including centres in Migori and West Pokot counties.
