Ruto Western tour continues

President William Ruto‘s tour of the Western region continues, and he is expected to visit Vihiga County on Tuesday, August 29, 2023.

The president, who is set to launch more development projects as well as meet Wananchi, is expected to be accompanied by local leaders and Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, who hails from the county.

The head of state is on a five-day tour of the western region’s counties, where he has pledged to revive sugar companies from his previous meet-the-people tour.

KDF recruitment gathers speed

The nationwide recruitment by the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) continues across the country amid tough warnings against bribery.

The kick-off exercise was officiated by Vice Chief of Defence Forces Lt-Gen Jonah Mwangi on Monday, August 29, and warned that any bribery attempt would not be tolerated.

KDF is seeking recruits for officer cadets, recruits, and Defense Forces Constables categories.

Secondary schools reopen 

Amid hiked bus fares and the high cost of living, secondary schools are reopening for the third term.

As in previous cases, parents and learners are expected to deal with raised fares as public service vehicles are expected to take advantage of the back-to-school rush.

The third term is the shortest and last in the educational yearly calendar.

Meanwhile, thousands of university students are stranded following the inaccessibility of the Higher Education Loans Board’s (HELB) portal to apply for loans ahead of the institutions’ reopening.

Treasury CS, CBK Governor to shed light on World Coin

Treasury Cabinet Secretary Njuguna Ndung’u and Central Bank of Kenya Governor Dr Kamau Thugge will appear before the Joint Ad Hoc Parliamentary Committee to shed light on the cryptocurrency project World Coin.

The cryptocurrency project’s recent activities in the country have been controversial, and the 17-member committee chaired by Narok West MP Gabriel Tongoyo has invited Ndung’u and Thugge to give answers on the subject.

Health Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakhumicha, National Intelligence Service (NIS) Director General Noordin Haji, Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Director Mohamed Amin, the Office of the Attorney General, the Registrar of Companies, the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA), and the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner (ODPC) are the other government officials invited by the committee.
