Atheists back pastor Robert Burale amid ex-wife’s remarks
By Faith Lagat, October 6, 2025The Atheists in Kenya Society has publicly expressed support for Pastor Robert Burale amid recent remarks made by his ex-wife, gospel singer Rozina Mwakideu.
In a press statement dated October 5, 2025, titled “We Stand with Pastor Robert Burale,” the secular organisation sided with the city pastor, highlighting an unusual alignment given their traditional ideological differences.
Harrison Mumia, President of the Atheists in Kenya Society, addressing Mwakideu’s comments about her marriage, noted that, the Atheists in Kenya Society stands with Pastor Robert Burale.
“Robert Burale’s ex-wife, Rozinah Mwakideu, has opened up about her marriage to Robert, describing the period as her biggest mistake and revealing the red flags that led to the collapse of their union,” part of the statement said.

Ex-wife’s remarks
Rozina Mwakideu, in an interview aired on October 4, 2025, with media personality Alex Mwakideu, described her marriage to Burale as her “biggest mistake” and the “darkest period” of her life.
The couple, married for one year and two days before divorcing in 2013, did not have children, which Rozina now considers a “blessing.” She disclosed that her third attempt to leave the marriage was final, citing challenges in maintaining her personal identity.
Mwakideu also revealed that her mother had warned her about “darkness” in the union, emphasising the emotional strain the marriage caused.
The Atheists in Kenya Society characterised Rozina’s statements as stemming from “bitterness and resentment,” noting, “Mwakideu is obviously dealing with a lot of bitterness and resentment, 12 years after her split from Burale. Clearly, she hasn’t really moved on. She is a petty, nasty, and vindictive ex who wants to tarnish Burale’s reputation.”
The organisation encouraged her to seek counselling and therapy for emotional healing and forgiveness, a stance that contrasts with their usual advocacy for secularism.
“We urge Mwakideu to work on her emotional healing. She should seek counseling and therapy to speed up healing and forgiveness.”
Pastor Burale reflects on marriage
In a separate interview on September 26, 2025, Pastor Burale offered a reflective account of the marriage, describing Rozina as a “remarkable woman of faith” and a “devoted mother.”
He attributed the breakup to timing issues and external interference, stating, “The biggest mistake we made as a couple was allowing too many people to interfere in our marriage.” Burale emphasised that despite the divorce, their relationship remains cordial, citing a positive interaction at a recent church service.
This public statement from the Atheists in Kenya Society introduces an unexpected dimension to the ongoing discourse surrounding Burale and Mwakideu’s failed marriage, drawing attention from both religious and secular communities.
