Aspirant who threatened to kill Makueni MCA charged in court
A former Kiteta-Kisau ward aspirant was today charged at a Nairobi court with uttering words threatening to kill his opponent during the 2022 General Election.
Denis Wambua Masavu, who contested as a Member of County Assembly (MCA) in Makueni County in the last election, was accused of uttering words threatening to kill the current Kiteta-Kisau MCA Denis Kioko who floored him in the 2022 poll.
The alleged offence took place at Ngoni village, Mbooni East district within Makueni county on March 11, 2023.
The prosecution told the court that the accused said: “….my votes were stolen and I went to Tawa court but later realized that there is no court in Tawa only money exchanging hands. Money was poured and my case was thrown out of court, I cannot surrender it’s either the current MCA dies or I die,(SIC)”
He appeared before the chief magistrate Susan Shitumbi where he denied the charges.
The defence counsel Omwiti urged the court to be lenient on bond terms citing that the accused was sick and had recently been discharged from the hospital.
“During the time of arrest, my client was returning from the hospital, he is under treatment for asthma and high blood pressure,” Omwiti argued.
The prosecution did not oppose to bond terms but requested the court to be strict on his release since he can be a threat by interfering with the witnesses.
He was released on Ksh1 million bond or alternative cash bail of Ksh500,000 thousand with two contact persons, with conditions not to either contact or get in touch with the witnesses.
The matter will be mentioned on August 10, 2023, for pre-trial.
