Highlight on NADCO

The National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) has continued to dominate the national debate, and it is expected to do so going forward.

NADCO came into the limelight again after the High Court suspended its implementation after a petitioner raised concerns over it.

On Monday, April 1, 2024, Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga called out the judiciary for its move to halt the report’s implementation.

“We have heard that the High Court ordered the suspension of implementation of the National Dialogue Committee report.

“This is a clear indication that the judiciary is being controlled by powerful executive personnel who do not have goodwill for its citizens. This is a deliberate scheme to go against what was agreed on at the Bomas,” Raila said.

Raila’s reaction came after his Azimio La Umoja-Kenya Kwanza co-principal, Kalonzo Musyoka, said the High Court move was state-sponsored.

“This is a deliberate scheme to go against what was agreed on at the Bomas,” Kalonzo, who co-chaired NADCO, said.

Darkness in five counties

Kenya Power announced that five counties, including the capital city, will be thrown into darkness on April 2.

The outage, which starts at 9:00 am and ends at 5:00 pm will affect Mua Park, Othelo Lane, Orchard Close, Muthaiga Grove, Serengeti Road, Mobil Plaza, Mutundu Road, Saudi Embassy, Muthaiga Golf Club and adjacent customers in Nairobi.

Makueni, Bomet, Homa Bay, and Nyeri are the other counties expected to be in the dark following the 9:00 am and 5:00 pm power outages announced.

Weather patterns

The Kenya Meteorological Department announced rain is anticipated across different parts of the country over the coming days.

Heavy downpours are expected today to April 8, especially in the Central Highlands, Western Kenya, Rift Valley, Southeast Lowlands, Coast, Northeast, and Northwest regions, which are all likely to experience heavy rains.

The weather department warned of high temperatures in certain counties.

Places such as Turkana, Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Isiolo, Garissa, Tana River, Lamu, Kilifi, Mombasa, and Kwale are expected to face high average daytime temperatures exceeding 30°C.

City residents are expected to take extra precautions given how heavy rains affect traffic movements and the danger they pose to life through flooding.
