Idd-ul-Fitr

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki declared Wednesday, April 10 a public holiday to observe Idd-ul-Fitr.

Idd-ul-Fitr marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan, which commenced on March 11, 2024.

This occasion holds significance to Muslims worldwide, symbolizing the conclusion of a period dedicated to fasting and spiritual enrichment.

Idd ul-Fitr commences upon the sighting of the new moon. Observers then participate in a collective prayer known as the Salat al-Eid.

Following the prayer, Muslims exchange warm greetings of “Eid Mubarak” (Blessed Eid) and share gifts and food with loved ones.

Additionally, a fundamental aspect of Idd ul-Fitr is the charitable tradition of zakat al fitr, where Muslims are encouraged to offer a specific amount of money or food to those less fortunate before the Eid prayer.

Blackout in 3 counties

Kenya Power has announced a temporary blackout scheduled for Wednesday, April 10, affecting three counties.

In a statement on Tuesday, April 9, the utility company cited network maintenance as the reason for the blackout.

In Kiambu County, areas including Kibichoi, Gathiruini, and Githioro will experience the outage from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Residents in Marige, Kibichoi, Kigumo, and other adjacent areas will be affected.

Similarly, in Migori County, the blackout will affect Uriri, Bware, and Oyani areas from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. Residents in Uriri, Kamsaki, and Koigo, among others, are urged to make necessary arrangements during the stated period.

Nyeri County will also be impacted, particularly in the Kiriani and Kamune areas, from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Residents in Gatugi Market, Kiriaini Town, and Munaini DC’s Office, among other locations, should expect temporary disruption.
