Anyang’ Nyong’o mourns passing of former JOOTRH CEO George Rae
By Cy Muganda, December 27, 2025Kisumu Governor Peter Anyang’ Nyong’o has expressed deep sorrow following the untimely death of Dr George Rae, the former Chief Executive Officer of Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH).
In a condolence message issued on Saturday, December 27, 2025, Governor Nyong’o eulogised Dr Rae as an exceptional public servant whose commitment to healthcare transformed institutions and touched countless lives.
“It is with profound sorrow, deep grief, and a heavy sense of loss that I convey my heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, colleagues and the entire healthcare fraternity following the untimely passing of Dr George Rae, former Chief Executive Officer of the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH),” Nyong’o stated.
Distinguished healthcare leader
The Governor described Dr Rae as an accomplished clinician and visionary administrator whose leadership helped transform institutions and strengthen service delivery within the public health sector.
“Dr Rae was an exceptional servant of the people, an accomplished clinician, a visionary administrator, and a gentle yet firm leader whose commitment to public healthcare transformed institutions and touched countless lives,” he said.

Nyong’o noted that even after handing over leadership of JOOTRH in February 2024, Dr Rae’s devotion to service remained unwavering.
“Even after handing over leadership in February 2024, Dr Rae’s devotion to service would not wane. As a healthcare advisor within the Kisumu County Department of Medical Services, he continued to give generously of his intellect and experience—strengthening partnerships, mobilising resources and advancing reforms that will benefit generations to come,” the Governor stated.
Legacy of humane leadership
Beyond his professional achievements, Nyong’o emphasised that Dr Rae would be remembered most for his humane approach to leadership, which prioritised teamwork, mentorship, and continuous learning.
“Above all, Dr Rae will be remembered for his humane leadership. He believed in teamwork, listened attentively, mentored generously, and approached every challenge as a learner as much as a leader,” Nyong’o said.

Nyong’o extended condolences to Dr Rae’s family, noting that the loss was not only personal but one felt across Kisumu County and the country at large.
“On behalf of the County Government of Kisumu and on my own behalf, I extend our deepest sympathies to his family at this difficult time. We mourn with you, and we share in your pain. We also mourn as a county and as a nation, having lost a dedicated son whose life’s work strengthened our health systems and restored hope to many,” the Governor stated.
