Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Kithure Kindiki has warned that anyone who attempts to access security offices without permission will face the full wrath of the law.

While addressing the media on Thursday, March 9, 2023, the CS affirmed that it was wrong for anyone to access security offices without authorisation since it would affect functionality.

His remarks come after Azimio supremo Raila Odinga attempted to access the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) offices on Tuesday, March 7, 2023, where he had gone to express solidarity with former Interior CS Fred Matiang’i.

Kindiki issued directives that all security agencies should ensure that such facilities are accorded maximum security. He reiterated that no individual will be spared if found trespassing such facilities regardless of the position they hold in society.

“Some politicians, ostensibly going to provide political solidarity to Dr. Matiang’i, caused disturbances including threats to mobilise people to forcibly access the DCI headquarters,

“I direct all security agencies to ensure that our security facilities remain protected areas and should not be allowed to become a theatre for politics or rowdy and unlawful behaviour including unauthorised access,” he stated.

Adding: “Any person regardless of their rank in society who threatens to forcibly access security facilities or intimidate officers on duty will be dealt with firmly, ruthlessly and decisively in accordance with the law,”

On Tuesday, Raila protested after he was denied access to the DCI headquarters. The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader expressed disappointment noting that it was a public office and he should not be stopped from accessing the premises.

“This is a public office. You want me to order these people (supporters) to open the gate by force. I have a right to go see the Director(Amin). I have a right to go inside,” he stated.

The standoff took the intervention of Matiang’i’s lawyer Dunstan Omari who convinced the Azimio leader to leave the facility.
