Countering renewed attacks by al Shabaab tops President Uhuru Kenyatta’s agenda when he holds a two-day meeting with security heads at State House Mombasa starting today.

State House spokesperson and Head of Presidential Strategic Communication Unit  Kanze Dena confirmed meeting would take place.

Rising political tensions, which pose a threat to security will also be discussed. The meeting comes in the wake of heightened political tensions in the country over the implementation of the BBI report.

The meeting brings together Regional Coordinators, County Commissioners, Regional and County Police commanders, regional and county heads from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, National Intelligence Services, Inspector General of Police Hilary Mutyambai, Director of Public Prosecutions  Noordin Haji, Interior Principal Secretary  Karanja Kibicho and CS Fred Matiang’i.

There are reports that  Uhuru is also scheduled hold a closed door meeting with some governors whose agenda has not been made public.

However, Dena said she is not aware of such a meeting.
