Amisi raises alarm over US Ebola facility as Duale defends Laikipia project

Saboti Member of Parliament Caleb Amisi has raised concerns over plans to establish an Ebola preparedness and isolation facility in Laikipia, urging the government to prioritise the country’s safety amid fears over the deadly virus.

In a statement on his X account on May 30, 2026, Amisi said the Ebola threat is too serious to be treated as a political issue.

He warned that Kenya risked devastating consequences if leaders failed to act responsibly.

“Ebola is such a serious thing that every other thing planned for this week must be postponed and we focus on saving Kenya as a nation state. Otherwise we may not even have people to address in the next rallies when Kenya has collapsed,” Amisi said.

The lawmaker questioned the government’s approach to the matter, adding: “What’s wrong with our leaders, bwana? Kwani hatupendi hii Kenya. As for me, I will do my part and let history judge us all. Kenya needs a renaissance!”

Duale defending the facility

The remarks come as the Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale defends the government’s decision to establish the facility in Laikipia in partnership with the United States, dismissing claims that it is being set up solely to host Americans exposed to Ebola.

This comes amid heightened vigilance across the region following Ebola outbreaks in neighbouring countries, with the Ministry of Health maintaining that Kenya has not recorded any confirmed cases of the disease.

In an interview on a local TV station on Saturday, May 30, 2026, Duale said the planned facility is a military installation that will serve both Kenyan and American nationals, particularly personnel operating in high-risk regions, and forms part of Kenya’s broader preparedness strategy against infectious disease outbreaks.

Duale sought to address growing concerns and speculation surrounding the project, insisting that the facility is intended to strengthen Kenya’s public health security and not to import Ebola patients into the country.

“In DRC, where the epicentre of Ebola is, I had an opportunity to visit there when I was Defence CS. Over 350 KDF soldiers are working for the UN today. We have a huge population of Kenyans working in DRC,” Duale stated.

“Why is it said we’re bringing Ebola patients to Laikipia? The facility is a military facility. KDF soldiers and other Kenyans will use that facility.”
