By , July 16, 2026

Niko Kadi Movement team leader Allans Ademba has announced his arrest in Ol Kalou, stating that he is currently being held at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) offices.

Ademba disclosed the development through a brief statement posted on his social media platforms on Thursday, July 16, 2026.

“I’ve been arrested. Niko Ol Kalou DCI,” Ademba stated.

The reported arrest comes as Ol Kalou remains under heightened political and security attention during the ongoing by-election, with increased deployment of police officers across the constituency amid a closely contested race.

Ademba rose to the limelight with the launch of the Niko Kadi Movement, a youth-led initiative that has mobilised eligible Kenyans, particularly young people, to register as voters ahead of the 2027 General Election.

He has also remained vocal on governance, accountability and electoral issues through public engagements and media appearances.

By the time of publication, neither the Directorate of Criminal Investigations nor the National Police Service had issued an official statement explaining the reasons for Ademba’s arrest or whether he was expected to face any charges.

His arrest comes as authorities maintain heightened security throughout the constituency to ensure a peaceful electoral process.

Over 1000 police officers have been deployed at polling stations, along major roads and in key trading centres, with security agencies intensifying patrols following isolated incidents of violence and political tension reported on the eve of the by-election.

Security checkpoints have also been mounted at strategic locations as officers monitor the movement of people and vehicles.

The increased security presence follows reports of clashes between rival political supporters, alleged voter intimidation and the torching of a vehicle linked to a campaign agent on Wednesday, prompting security agencies to reinforce personnel across the constituency before polling began.

Voting underway

Voting is underway in the Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election, with polling stations having been opened at 6.00 a.m. as residents turned out early to elect their new Member of Parliament.

Taking it to their X handles on Thursday, July 16, 2026, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) said polling centres will remain open until 5.00 p.m., adding that any time lost due to interruptions during the day will be compensated for at the close of voting.
