Preparations for the 2026 Labour Day celebrations have been finalised, Cabinet Secretary for Labour and Social Protection Dr Alfred Mutua has confirmed. This year’s celebration will be held in Vihiga County.

Mutua said the government, in collaboration with key stakeholders, has completed all logistical arrangements ahead of the May 1, 2026, celebrations, which will be led by President William Ruto.

The CS spoke after a series of high-level meetings and inspections aimed at ensuring seamless coordination for the annual event. He met Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU) Secretary General Francis Atwoli at the Tom Mboya Labour College to finalize plans for the celebrations.

He also held consultations with Vihiga County Commissioner Peter Maina and later met Governor Wilber Ottichilo to review county support and logistical readiness.

Mutua said he subsequently inspected the main venue in Vihiga and expressed satisfaction with the state of preparedness.

“I’m pleased to report that we are fully ready to host the nation,” he said, adding that all key arrangements had been put in place to ensure a successful celebration.

The Labour Day event is marked annually to honour workers and recognise their contribution to national development.

Mutua invited Kenyans from across the country to attend the celebrations, saying the event will provide an opportunity to reflect on the dignity of labour and the role of workers in driving economic growth.

“We invite all Kenyans to join us as we honour the dignity of labour and celebrate the contribution of our workers to national development,” he said.

This year’s celebrations are expected to bring together government officials, labour leaders, and workers from various sectors in a show of unity and recognition of the country’s workforce.
