Nandi Hills Member of Parliament Alfred Keter will now defend his seat on an independent ticket after his nomination win was nullified by United Democratic Alliance (UDA)’s dispute tribunal on Friday.

Speaking to a local media house on Sunday, Keter termed the nullification of his win by a party he wons loved a political witchhunt meant to “deny” the people of Nandi Hils an opportunity to elect a leader of their choice.

“I’m warning them (UDA) of a humiliating defeat in the general election because I will defend my seat as an independent candidate,” Keter said.

He also denied causing chaos during vote counting as alleged by the UDA dispute tribunal.

“I neither caused any chaos nor forced anyone to give me the nomination certificate as it was purported in the tribunal.

“The party was deliberate from the word go to deny me the ticket because they started by delaying the delivery of voting materials,” he added.

Keter was declared the winner of the primaries held on Tuesday after garnering 10,363 votes against his closest challenger Bernard Kitur who got  7,468 votes.

Others in the race were Robert Chepkwony who got 2,539 votes, George Tarus (425 votes), Abraham Limo (540) and Irine Chemutai (388).
