‘Avoid car sunroof, roadside meetings, focus on viable projects only’ – Alai to Ruto
Kileleshwa Member of County Assembly (MCA) Robert Alai has sent a piece of advice to President William Ruto as he traverses various parts of the country for development tours.
Alai in a statement shared via his official X account on Sunday, August 18, 2024, pleaded with President Ruto to avoid addressing roadside meetings from car rooftops during his tours of different counties.
Alai on Ruto’s roadside meetings
The blogger-cum-politician says that the roadside meetings should stop for at least one year, claiming that President Ruto is messing up in some pronouncements he makes during such meetings, which will be hard to undo.
“Sunday Thought: President Ruto should avoid the car sunroof and roadside meetings for the next one year. Otherwise he is messing big time and it won’t be easy to undo,” Alai stated.
Alai on Ruto’s projects
Alai also wants President Ruto to shift his focus to viable projects only.
He argues that the Head of State should consider several factors before going ahead and launching some of the projects he has been launching.

According to Alai, Ruto should be checking the viability and availability of funds together with the greed of the project managers, before he launches any development project.
This, Alai says, will help in putting an end to the stalling of projects after they get launched.
“Also, every project you want to launch, check viability and availability of funds together with greed of the project managers. You can’t launch projects which don’t move beyond the launch plaque,” Alai said.
Alai on corrupt governors
Alai further wants President Ruto to personally ensure that corrupt and unpopular governors are removed from office, for counties to work.
The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) politician who has been defending President Ruto in the recent past, says the Head of State will become an enemy of the people if he decides to save some of the governors who have been impeached.
“Lastly, for counties to work, personally ensure that corrupt and unpopular governors are removed from office. You can’t save governors and be enemies of the people. MCAs are not fools to be fighting some governors. Sacrifice some of the very corrupt and unpopular governors,” Alai argued.

Alai’s remarks come barely days after a section of Kenyans on social media started mocking President Ruto’s extensive development tours which have seen him launch, among other things, water stations and a dormitory.
Ruto’s projects mocked
Netizens, especially on the X platform, have been wrapping a ribbon around various nondescript items and then pretending to launch them, an apparent dig at Ruto’s recent launch of rural projects, which Kenyans argue should be officiated by his Cabinet Secretaries or MCAs.
President Ruto embarked on countrywide development tours after the political temperatures lowered following the cease of anti-government protests.

He has been crisscrossing the country, accompanied by several senior government officials, to launch projects some of which, Kenyans have noted, had already been launched several years back by him.
Following the protests ceasefire, Ruto has been to Meru, Embu, Kirinyaga, Kisii, Nyamira, Kakamega and Nandi counties.

On Saturday, August 17, 2024, Ruto was in Kakamega and Nandi counties, where he launched various projects.
