Garissa Township MP Aden Duale and his Kandara counterpart Alice Wahome have resigned from their parliamentary positions.

The duo was granted opportunities by National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula to make personal statements that marked their final contributions on the floor of Parliament.

Duale exits Parliament to join the executive arm of government as Cabinet Secretary for Defence following the confirmation of his nomination to the cabinet by MPs.

Kandara MP Alice Wahome will also join the executive arm of government following the approval of her nomination as Water and Sanitation CS.

In her personal statement, Alice Wahome expressed gratitude to her constituents for entrusting her with the parliamentary position for three consecutive terms.

“As I exit this Parliament, I’m truly grateful to the people of Kandara Constituency for finding it fit to give me three terms. I’ll be surrendering my third term for the purposes of a by-election. I am told that this House has approved my nomination as a Cabinet Secretary [for Water], and so I take the opportunity to thank my colleagues for the favourable consideration. I want to thank President William Ruto for nominating a woman, and not just a woman, but the iron lady of Kandara,” she said.

The resignation of the duo now triggers by-elections in their respective constituencies.
