Abdulswammad Nassir mourns death of Raila Odinga’s sister Bery Achieng
By Joel Masibo, November 25, 2025The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) deputy party leader, Abdulswammad Nassir, has paid tribute to former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s younger sister, Beryl Achieng, who died on Tuesday, November 25, 2025.
Kisumu County Woman Representative Ruth Odinga, who also happens to be the deceased’s blood sister, confirmed the news while concealing the cause of death on Tuesday.
Beryl was the daughter of Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, Kenya’s first Vice President and Mary Ajuma Oginga. She was a mother to three children, Ami, Auma, Chizi, and Taurai.

Ruth Odinga’s confirmation
“It is with a heavy heart, but accepting the will of God, we announce the sudden passing of Beryl Achieng Odinga. Daughter of the late Hon. Jaramogi Odinga and Mama Mary Ajuma Oginga. Mother to Ami Auma, Chizi and Taurai.”
“Sister to Senator Oburu Oginga, Rt Hon Raila Odinga, Akinyi Wenwa, and others. Sister-in-law to Dr Anne Oburu, Dr Canon Ida Odinga, Hon. Tabu Osewe, and Judy Oburu,” Ruth Odinga said in a statement.
Sharing the loss with the Odinga family, Abdulswammad Nassir said, ”On behalf of the ODM fraternity and the millions of supporters who stand with the Odinga family, I extend my deepest condolences during this moment of immense grief. Beryl was a beloved daughter of the late Hon. Jaramogi Oginga Odinga and Mama Mary Ajuma Oginga and a cherished sibling to Sen. Dr Oburu Oginga, Rt Hon. Raila Odinga, and Akinyi Wenwa,” the Mombasa Governor said on Tuesday, November 25, 2025.
Putting family in prayers

”My prayers and heartfelt sympathy also go to her in-laws — Dr. Anne Oburu, Dr. Canon Ida Odinga, Hon. Tabu Osewe and Judy Oburu – and all those who share in this deep loss. Her passing is a profound reminder of life’s fragility.”
“Beryl will be remembered for her grace, warmth and the quiet strength with which she carried herself. She leaves behind a legacy reflected in her children and in the many lives she touched with kindness and humility. May God grant the Odinga family patience, comfort and strength in this difficult period. May He envelop them in His peace and grant Beryl’s soul eternal rest,” he added.
Meanwhile, leaders across the political divide have mourned the departed, one month after the burial of her elder brother, Raila Odinga.
