Raila Odinga’s sister, Ruth Odinga, has made an emotional reference to his brother’s burial date this Sunday, October 19, 2025, as a day she has been dreading.

In a Facebook post on Sunday, October 19, 2025, Ruth stated that it was the day she would be saying goodbye to her brother, whom she described as. protector, friend, and confidant.

“Today is the day I have been dreading. The day I have to say the final goodbye. My protector, my confidant, my friend,” she stated.

With Odinga’s demise, leaving her and Oburu Oginga among the few remnants from the union of Jaramogi Oginga Odinga and Mama Mary Odhiambo (both deceased), Ruth sent Raila with a message of love to her parents.

“Tell Mama and Baba I love them!” she said.

Her sentiments come a day after she visited Raila Odinga’s final resting place at the Kang’o Ka Jaramogi musoleum at their ancestral home in Bondo on Saturday, October 18, 2025.

During the visit, Ruth disclosed that she went to her mother’s graveyard to tell her that her son, Raila, had come home.

She also thanked her residents of Bondo for their solidarity during their grieving time.

“Mama, I brought back your son! I went to the Kango Ka Jaramogi family mausoleum, specifically the grave of our beloved mother, Mama Mary Odinga, to tell her that her son, Raila Amollo Odinga, is back.

“Thank you, Bondo people, for the love you showed, which brought a smile to my grieving face. It is well,” she stated.

Raila’s resting place

Raila will be laid to rest alongside his parents at the Kang’o Ka Jaramogi mausoleum as dictated in his will, according to a proclamation by his elder brother, Oburu.

A development that would continue a lifelong family tradition that began with Mary, her mother, being laid to rest at the location, while Raila was imprisoned without trial under the Moi regime. The tradition continued with Kenya’s first Vice President being rested at the facility after he died in 2004.

Following the church service at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology, Raila’s remains will proceed to the mausoleum for their final ride to where the body of the renowned politician will take its ultimate rest.
