To conclude the third edition of its women empowerment program in Kenyan communities, dubbed ‘Mama ni Mwangaza’, BIC has recently celebrated seven groups of women chamas by awarding them Ksh90,000 to support projects in their local communities.

The awards ceremony was held at the BIC East Africa headquarters in Kasarani, Nairobi in presence of BIC representatives and attendees from various women Chamas involved in the program.

Mama ni Mwangaza was launched by BIC in 2020 and hosted workshops for women to raise awareness in local communities around the efficient and safe use of flames, as well as equip participants with sufficient information to help them make informed financial and environmental decisions.

The educational workshops aimed to equip women to in turn raise further awareness within their communities and get cash prizes to support their community projects. In addition to the reaching over 8,000 women to date, directly and indirectly, this year over 6,000 women participants from 160 Chamas in and around Nairobi, took part in the ‘Mama ni Mwangaza’ workshops.
