4 persons of interest linked to stolen items in Kisumu arrested
Police in Kisumu County have arrested four persons of interest linked to theft and the handling of stolen property following a targeted security operation aimed at dismantling criminal networks in the region.
The National Police Service (NPS), in a statement shared via X on Monday, March 23, 2026, said the arrests were made during a coordinated, intelligence-led crackdown focusing on individuals believed to be part of a wider syndicate involved in stealing and reselling goods.
“Police officers in Kisumu County have intensified efforts to curb theft and the handling of stolen goods, resulting in the successful arrest of four suspects linked to these crimes,” NPS stated.
“The arrests followed a well-coordinated, intelligence-led operation targeting individuals believed to be part of a wider network involved in property theft and illegal resale.”
Stolen goods recovered
During the operation, officers recovered a wide range of items that had previously been reported stolen.
These included four motorcycles, two microwaves, television sets, an electric cooker, a refrigerator, bicycles, assorted footwear, and other household and personal effects.
Authorities said the recovery marks a significant step in ongoing efforts to curb rising cases of theft and disrupt illegal resale operations within Kisumu and its surrounding areas.
“During the crackdown, officers recovered several items previously reported stolen, including four motorcycles, two microwaves, assorted footwear, an electric cooker, a refrigerator, television sets, bicycles, and various other household and personal goods,” the statement reads in part.
The four persons of interest are currently being held at Obunga Police Station as investigations continue. Police indicated that the individuals will be arraigned in court once preliminary enquiries are complete.
The recovered items have also been secured at the station and are expected to serve as key exhibits in the case.
“The suspects were placed in custody at Obunga Police Station pending arraignment, while the recovered items were secured at the same facility as exhibits,” the police stated.

The National Police Service reiterated its commitment to pursuing individuals involved in theft and related crimes, warning that those engaged in such activities will face the full force of the law.
“The National Police Service reaffirms its commitment to intensifying surveillance and strengthening intelligence-gathering efforts to ensure that all individuals involved in criminal activities are swiftly apprehended and brought to justice,” NPS said.
