Residents of Angata Barikoi in Transmara South Sub-County, Narok County, have turned in four illegal firearms to authorities, responding to the government’s ongoing amnesty on illegal weapons. The move comes amid continued efforts by security agencies to reduce the circulation of illegal guns that fueled the recent deadly clashes between the bordering communities. The amnesty period ends in the next 20 days, according to the Kenya Gazette.

In a statement shared on X on Monday, December 29, 2025, the National Police Service (NPS) said the illegal firearms were voluntarily surrendered in Angata Barikoi in line with the ongoing amnesty on illegal firearms.

“Four more illegal firearms were voluntarily surrendered to security agencies yesterday in the Angata Barikoi area of Transmara South Sub-County, Narok County, in line with the government’s ongoing amnesty on illegal firearms,” the National Police Service said

The surrendered weapons included one AK-47 rifle and three homemade firearms capable of firing. Authorities have placed the guns in secure custody while they undergo further processing under the law. The amnesty program provides a legal and safe avenue for citizens to turn in firearms without fear of prosecution, a strategy aimed at preventing armed violence in communities.

Security officials also expressed gratitude to local leaders and community members for supporting the initiative. Cooperation from the public has been crucial to the success of previous amnesty drives, demonstrating a shared commitment to peace and safety in Narok County and beyond.

“National Police Service appreciates the support of the local leadership and members of the public for their cooperation and urges anyone still in possession of illegal firearms to take advantage of the amnesty period and surrender them for the safety and well-being of all,” NPS said.

The government has encouraged all individuals with illegal guns to come forward before the amnesty period ends. Officials stress that surrendering firearms now prevents potential legal consequences and contributes to reducing gun-related incidents, making communities safer for everyone.
