3 nabbed as police recover crude weapons in Garissa
By Ndiritu Wanjiru, July 8, 2026Police in Garissa County have arrested three persons of interest and recovered assorted crude weapons following an intelligence-led operation targeting a group allegedly planning to commit criminal offences.
In a statement on their X handle issued on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, the National Police Service (NPS) has said that officers from Garissa Police Station acted on intelligence reports and intercepted a group of nine suspects in the Bulla Sagarey area of Garissa Town.
“Today, 8th July 2026, police officers from Garissa Police Station in Garissa County apprehended three suspects in possession of assorted crude weapons,” NPS stated.
“Acting on intelligence, the officers arrested the suspects, who were part of a group of nine, in the Bulla Sagarey area of Garissa Town.”

According to the statement by NPS, the persons of interest resisted arrest and turned violent, confronting the officers during the operation. The confrontation left several police officers with injuries before three members of the group were subdued and taken into custody.
“The group, which intended to commit criminal offences, initially resisted arrest and resorted to violence, confronting the police officers and causing injuries to them,” NPS added.
Police recovered assorted crude weapons believed to have been in the possession of the individuals during the operation.
Police launch manhunt
The six remaining persons of interest managed to escape and are currently being pursued by security agencies. Police said efforts are underway to apprehend them and establish the full circumstances surrounding the alleged planned criminal activities.
The three individuals in custody are expected to be arraigned in court to face relevant charges once investigations are complete.

The operation is part of ongoing security efforts aimed at preventing crime and enhancing public safety in Garissa County, where security agencies continue to conduct intelligence-led operations against criminal elements.
