20 injured in Fort Tenan crash as 2 buses and 2 lorries collide

In a statement shared on X on Saturday, April 4, 2026, the Kenya Red Cross said emergency teams were quickly deployed to assist the victims and prevent further casualties
The Red Cross explained that the accident occurred in the early hours of the morning and involved 66 passengers travelling in the two buses and two lorries, resulting in multiple injuries.

“A road traffic accident occurred at around 5:20 am at the Tunnel area, Fort Tenan, Kericho County, involving two buses and two lorries carrying 66 passengers,” the statement reads.
The Kenya Red Cross has said a total of 20 casualties, including 6 minors, were reported with no fatalities, adding that 5 people were seriously injured while the rest are receiving treatment at Fort Tenan Sub-County Hospital.
“A total of 20 casualties were reported with no fatalities. Five were seriously injured, with two referred, while others are receiving treatment at Fort Tenan Sub-County Hospital. Six children were among those affected,” the statement reads.
The Kenya Red Cross added that a separate trailer also overturned at the scene, with no injuries reported.

The organisation highlighted that their teams provided immediate first aid to the injured and coordinated transportation to Fort Tenan Sub-County Hospital for medical care. They emphasised that no deaths were recorded despite the severity of the collision, reflecting the importance of timely emergency response.
The society has added that it continues to monitor the situation, and additional support has been offered to the victims and their families. The Red Cross urged drivers and passengers to exercise caution, particularly in accident-prone areas such as tunnels, where visibility and road conditions can increase the risk of crashes.
