2 persons of interest nabbed as DCI recovers illegal firearms in Migori
The Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) have arrested two suspects in Migori County after an intelligence-led operation uncovered illegal weapons in Nyametaburo location.
In a statement shared on Saturday, April 11, 2026, DCI has said the operation, carried out in Nyametaburo Location, involved officers from DCI Isebania working closely with K9 units from Isebania Police Station.
“Detectives from DCI Isebania, in collaboration with K9 officers from Isebania Police Station, have arrested two suspects and recovered a firearm and other weapons following an intelligence-led operation in Nyametaburo Location, Migori County,” the statement reads.
According to the detectives, the operation began after officers received credible intelligence, leading them to a specific homestead in Makerero Village, where they carried out a search that uncovered several suspicious items hidden in the house, including a homemade firearm concealed under a sofa set and one round of ammunition wrapped in aluminium foil.
“Acting on credible intelligence, officers raided the residence of a 51-year-old person of interest at Makerero Village. A search of the premises led to the recovery of a homemade firearm concealed under a sofa set, alongside one round of ammunition wrapped in aluminium foil. Also recovered were a twisted metal rod, a blue balaclava mask, a dotted dera dress, a black Marvin, and a black jacket used to conceal the weapon,” DCI’s statement reads.

Police said the first person of interest later cooperated with officers and led them to another location within the same area, where a second individual, believed to be connected to the activities, was arrested, and a Maasai sword was found in a red sheath.
“The person of interest subsequently led officers to the residence of his accomplice within Nyametaburo, where the second person of interest was arrested. A search at the second residence resulted in the recovery of a Maasai sword in a red sheath,” the statement reads.
Preliminary findings from the investigation have also raised concerns about the background of the first person of interest, with authorities indicating that he is not new to law enforcement agencies and has previously been involved in criminal cases.
“Preliminary investigations indicate that the first suspect is a habitual offender with several cases pending before the Kehancha Law Courts,” the statement reads.
DCI confirmed that both persons of interest are currently being held as investigations continue, with plans to present them before the court once the process is complete.
“Both suspects remain in police custody pending further investigations and will be arraigned in court upon completion of processing,” the statement reads.
DCI concluded by assuring the public of its continued efforts to dismantle criminal networks and enhance safety across the country, emphasising the importance of intelligence sharing and community cooperation.
“The Directorate of Criminal Investigations reaffirms its commitment to dismantling criminal networks and safeguarding public security,” the statement reads.
