2 detained after vehicle loaded with bhang is nabbed in Nyandarua

Police officers have detained two occupants of a private vehicle after it was found loaded with sacks of what police officers believe is bhang.

In a statement on Thursday, September 11, 2025, the National Police Service indicated that the two have been detained at the Magumu Police Station.

“Yesterday, police officers intercepted a black Nissan X-Trail, registration number KDN 0**S, along the Nakuru–Nairobi Highway at Soko Mjinga. The vehicle, which had two occupants, was found to be transporting several sacks of a dry, green substance suspected to be narcotic drugs,” police said.

Thorough search

“The vehicle was escorted to Magumu Police Station, where, upon a thorough search, officers recovered multiple sacks of the suspected narcotics. The two suspects are in custody awaiting further police action.”

“The National Police Service remains steadfast in its commitment to combating the trade in narcotic drugs and calls on the public to continue supporting its operations by providing information.”

The bust comes just a day after Police arrested a man in possession of at least 168 rolls of bhang in Uasin Gishu County as authorities intensify the crackdown on drugs.

In a statement on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, the National Police Service indicated that the man has been detained at the Kapsoya Police Station, awaiting arraignment at the courts.

“Today, 9 September 2025, National Police Service officers from Kapsoya Police Station, while on patrol in the Munyaka area, arrested one suspect in possession of 168 rolls of bhang,” police said.

Elsewhere, police apprehended three men and seized at least 1,375 litres of ethanol in a major operation targeting the illicit brew trade in Kapsabet.

Detained awaiting arraignment

“The suspect was escorted to the station and placed in custody, awaiting processing and arraignment in court, while the exhibits were secured at the same facility.”

“The National Police Service reaffirms its commitment to combating the illegal drugs menace and urges the public to continue supporting security operations by providing timely information through the nearest police station or via the toll-free numbers 999, 911, 112.”

The raids come amid an intensified crackdown against drugs and illicit alcohol in the country.
