Police have arrested a man in possession of at least 168 rolls of bhang in Uasin Gishu County as authorities intensify the crackdown on drugs.

In a statement on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, the National Police Service indicated that the man has been detained at the Kapsoya Police Station, awaiting arraignment at the courts.

“Today, 9 September 2025, National Police Service officers from Kapsoya Police Station, while on patrol in the Munyaka area, arrested one suspect in possession of 168 rolls of bhang,” police said.

“The suspect was escorted to the station and placed in custody, awaiting processing and arraignment in court, while the exhibits were secured at the same facility.”

“The National Police Service reaffirms its commitment to combating the illegal drugs menace and urges the public to continue supporting security operations by providing timely information through the nearest police station or via the toll-free numbers 999, 911, 112.”

This comes just hours after police officers in Kitui County nabbed one individual on a motorcycle and seized packs of bhang wrapped in a polythene bag during a raid in Mwingi township.

In a statement posted on its official X account on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, the National Police Service (NPS) detailed the successful operation conducted by officers from Mwingi Police Station in the Mwingi township area.

Transporting bhang

The police have further revealed that the person of interest was busted while transporting the illegal drug on a motorcycle on Monday, September 8, 2025.

“On 8th September 2025, police officers from Mwingi Police Station conducted an operation targeting illicit brews and narcotic drugs within Mwingi township, Kitui County. They arrested one suspect who was transporting Cannabis sativa on a motorcycle,” NPS said.

According to the police, the person of interest was placed in custody pending a court appearance.

Likewise, the police, while announcing an ongoing operation targeting illicit brews and narcotic drugs within the area, have further stated that both the motorcycle and the drugs were impounded and held securely as evidence.
