10 arrested after attack on police post in Kakamega
The National Police Service (NPS) has announced the arrest of ten persons of interest following a violent attack on the Emakale Police Post in Matungu Sub-County, Kakamega County.
The operation comes just days after the incident, which saw public documents destroyed and personal property belonging to an officer vandalised.
In a statement released on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, on the National Police Service’s official X account, the police confirmed the arrests, stressing that investigations had been intensified immediately after the attack.
“Following the recent attack on the Emakale Police Post in Matungu Sub-County, Kakamega County, during which public documents and personal property belonging to an officer were destroyed, police have intensified their investigations,” NPS stated.
The service said the arrests were the result of a coordinated operation involving multiple security units.
“Today, 9th September 2025, a joint operation led by the Officer in Charge of the Station (OCS) for Matungu Police Station, in collaboration with DCI officers, resulted in the arrest of ten suspects linked to the incident,” the statement read.

“The persons of interest are currently being held in custody, with the police confirming that they will be taken to court to face charges. “All the suspects are in custody and will be arraigned in court,” NPS affirmed.
The National Police Service used the opportunity to send a stern warning to those who may attempt similar acts in the future. In its statement, the service emphasised that the destruction of police property or attacks on officers will be met with uncompromising action.
“The National Police Service sternly warns that any acts of violence, destruction of police property, or interference with officers on duty will not be tolerated. Such crimes will be met with swift action, and suspects will face the full force of the law,” NPS warned.
The attack on the Emakale Police Post had raised alarm among residents, as it not only disrupted police operations but also highlighted growing tensions in the area. By moving swiftly to arrest the suspects, police say they are sending a clear message that security institutions will not be undermined.
The NPS reiterated its commitment to safeguarding both its officers and the public while maintaining law and order across the country. Tuesday’s operation reflects the increasing use of joint task forces in tackling such crimes, combining the resources of local police units and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations.
As the suspects await their day in court, police maintain that their priority remains restoring calm in Matungu and ensuring that justice is delivered.
