1.5 million Kenyans have received Coronavirus vaccines – Govt
At least 1.5 million Kenyans have so far received the Covid 19 vaccines as the government finalised plans to bring in more doses to increase the coverage.
Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe in a statement said latest records indicates that more than 1,473,869 Covid 19 vaccines have so far been administered across the country to various high priority target groups since the exercise began.
He said at least 1,017,485 Kenyans were confirmed to have received the first dose of the Astrazeneca vaccine while another 456,384 got the second jab of the same dose.
The Cs said the uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose was at 44.9 percent with the majority being males at 55 percent while females are at 45 percent while the cumulative proportion of adults fully vaccinated was at 1.76 percent.
The uptake of the second dose by priority, the CS said is those Aged 58 years and above 141,730, Others 127,001, Health Workers 90,628, Teachers 62,205 while Security Officers are at 34,820.
Meanwhile, Kagwe said that 277 people have tested positive for the disease over the weekend, from a sample size of 3,796 tested in the last 24 hours.
“The positivity rate is now 7.3 percent and the total confirmed positive cases are now 185,868 and cumulative tests so far conducted are 1,981,951,” he said.
From the cases today, 272 are Kenyans while 5 are foreigners. 158 are males and 119 females. The youngest is a 10- month-old baby while the oldest is 95 years.
Today, the CS also said that 669 patients have recovered from the disease, 588 are from the Home Based and Isolation Care program while 81 from various health facilities countrywide bringing the total recoveries now at 127,625 out of whom 92,289 are from Home Based Care and Isolation program, while 35,336 are from various health facilities.
“Unfortunately, four patients have succumbed to the disease, all of them being late deaths reported after conducting facility record audits on diverse dates in the month of June 2021,” Kagwe said and confirming that the cumulative fatalities now stand at 3,675.

Cumulative deaths by age; 0-9 years (56), 10-19 years (26), 20- 29 (118), 30-39 years (304), 40-49 years (439), 50-59 years (743), 60 years and above (1,989).
Currently, the CS also confirmed that a total of 1,126 patients are currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 5,834 patients are under Home Based Isolation and Care program.
115 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 34 of whom are on ventilatory support and 50 on supplemental oxygen. 31 patients are under observation.
Another 166 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 151 of them in general wards and 15 in High Dependency Units (HDU).
In terms of County distribution; Nairobi has recorded 64 cases followed by Mombasa 31, Nandi 27, Siaya 22, Nakuru 21, Busia 17, Uasin Gishu 16, Homa Bay 10, Kericho 9, Kisumu 9, Bungoma 7, Narok 7, Embu 6, Kilifi 5, Migori 5, Kakamega 4, Lamu 4, Kiambu 4, Meru 2, Bomet 2, Taita Taveta 2, Kisii 1, Kitui 1 and Murang’a 1.
In terms of Sub County distribution; the 64 cases in Nairobi are from Kamukunji (9), Lang’ata and Westlands (6) cases each, Dagoretti North, Embakasi West, Makadara and Mathare (5) cases each, Embakasi Central and Starehe (4) cases each, Dagoretti South, Embakasi East and Embakasi North (3) cases each, Kibra and Roysambu (2) cases each, Embakasi South and Ruaraka (1) case each.
In Mombasa the 31 cases are from Mvita (20), Nyali (5), Changamwe (3), Kisauni (2), Jomvu (1). In Nandi the 27 cases are from Emgwen (23), Aldai and Nandi Hills (2) cases each. In Siaya the 22 cases are from Alego-Usonga (11), Gem (6), Bondo (4), Ugunja (1). In Nakuru the 21 cases are from Nakuru East (8), Naivasha and Nakuru West (4) cases each, Subukia (3), Nakuru North and Rongai (1) case each.
In Busia the 17 cases are from Matayos (10), Teso North (4), Nambale (2), Teso South (1). In Uasin Gishu the 16 cases are from Ainabkoi (10), Kesses and Turbo (3) cases each. In Homa Bay the 10 cases are from Rachuonyo South (6), Mbita (3), Rangwe (1). In Kericho the 9 cases are from Ainamoi (7), Belgut (2). In Kisumu the 9 cases are from Nyakach (5), Kisumu Central (4).
In Bungoma all the 7 cases are from Kimilili, while in Narok all the 7 cases are from Narok North. In Embu the 6 cases are from Manyatta. In Kilifi the 5 cases are from Kilifi North (4), Kaloleni (1). In Migori the 5 cases are from Awendo (3), Suna East (2). In Kakamega the 4 cases are from Ikolomani.
In Lamu the 4 cases are from Lamu West. In Kiambu the 4 cases are from Ruiru (3), Kabete (1). The 2 cases in Meru are from Imenti North, the 2 cases in Bomet are from Bomet Central and the 2 cases in Taita Taveta are from Taveta and Voi (1) case each. The case in Kisii is from Nyaribari Chache, the case in Kitui is from Mwingi West and the case in Murang’a is from Gatanga.
Distribution of positive cases by age is as follows; 0-9 years (21), 10-19 years (15), 20-29 years (47), 30-39 (60) 40-49 (47) 50- 59 (39) 60 years and above (48).
