Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has called for stronger collaboration between Africa and Japan.

Mudavadi, on Sunday, August 25, 2024, addressed the Tokyo Investment Conference for African Development (TICAD-9) Ministerial Meeting Plenary Session where he explained the need for a stronger relationship.

“Today, I had the honour of delivering a speech at the Tokyo Investment Conference for African Development (TICAD-9) Ministerial Meeting Plenary Session, where I underscored the importance of incorporating African concerns and challenges into the global agenda, both now and in the future,” Mudavadi said in a statement on X.

One of the issues that the Prime CS wants to be addressed is the growth of the youthful population.

“I highlighted the pressing need to prioritise employment opportunities for the growing youth population, advance agricultural development, foster trade, and drive digital transformation—areas crucial for promoting inclusive and sustainable growth.

“These priorities align with the United Nations’ commitment to ‘leave no one behind’ and reflect our shared aspiration for African solutions to Africa’s challenges,” he added.

On matters of agriculture, the former Sabatia Member of Parliament (MP) called for the integration of technology into the key sector.

“I proposed the integration of funding and technology in agriculture to enhance the sector’s resilience to climate change and stressed the importance of addressing the issues faced by youth and women from a South-South cooperation perspective,” the Prime CS continued.

Finally, Mudavadi explained the need for a re-evaluation of the funding architecture.

“Additionally, I called for a re-evaluation of the global financial architecture and advocated for strengthened collaboration between Africa and Japan under the TICAD framework.

“Together, we can build a more equitable and prosperous future for all,” he concluded.

Mudavadi’s address comes after he made another speech during a virtual meeting with Foreign Ministers of the Global South in the third Voice of the Global South Summit chaired by Dr. Laishankar, who is the Minister of External Affairs of India.
