United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Secretary General Cleophas Malala has revealed key resolutions of the Mulembe People’s Assembly meeting that was held in Kakamega on Monday, July 29, 2024.

Malala, through his official X account on Monday, July 29, 2024, stated that the leaders who had attended the meeting held in Kakamega had settled the Mulembe unity issue.

Political differences

Among the key resolutions reached during the meeting was that all leaders from the region, elected or appointed, would discard their political differences and pull towards a unified centre.

In the resolutions shared by Malala, the leaders are also said to have agreed to hold their leadership positions in the trust of the people.

Mulembe Oversight Committee

An oversight Mulembe multisectoral committee has also been set, with the aim of taking stock of all development projects in the region.

“All leaders from the Western region hold their positions in trust of the people and must at all times stay accountable to Mulembe,” part of the resolutions read.

“An oversight Mulembe multisectoral committee to take stock of all development projects budgeted or initiated in the Western region this financial year.”

The meeting is also said to have resolved to have the people of the Western region use their numbers to form or bargain with the government in place.

The next meeting will then be centred on matters of progress of projects in the 2024/2025 Financial Year. The meeting also resolved that future Finance Bills and budgets should be discussed and passed in the Assemblies based on the benefits assured to the Mulembe Nation.

“The Mulembe people resolve to henceforth, use their numerical strength to form or bargain with government,” the resolutions read in part.

“Next meeting to be on matters progress of projects in this year’s budget as shall be highlighted by the multisectoral committee.”

“Future finance bills/budgets be discussed and passed in the Assemblies based on the benefits assured to Mulembe Nation.”

A section of leaders from the Western Kenya region led by Malala, Trans-Nzoia County Governor George Natembeya, Saboti Member of Parliament (MP) Caleb Amisi, and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna among others, last week met in Nairobi and agreed to come up with the Mulembe People’s Assembly as a platform to be used to push for the interests of the region.

Natembeya while speaking during the Monday event called for unity within the Luhya community, urging the community to leverage its numbers to gain a more influential voice in national politics.

Natembeya further lauded the people for prioritising the interest of the community and attending the event.
