At the peak of her music career, PRINCESS FARIDA aka Queen of Chakacha got born again and started dancing to a different tune. And as ISAAC MIGWALLA mentored her in her new journey, the two became one. He lets us in on their love, family and more.

“I remember when we got married, I tried to touch my wife’s behind when she was cooking.
She slapped me and I was shocked,” recounts Isaac Migwalla, a former geologist and now husband to the former Queen of Chakacha, Princess Farida, now Farida Migwalla
For Farida, this was a reflex because in the clubs, men would grab her behind and hence, she developed the defence mechanism of slapping people to protect herself.
As a newly married woman who had gotten born again, she hadn’t healed from her past life in clubs and felt unsafe around men.
But slowly with patience, she began being comfortable with her husband. As much as she had become born again, she was still learning the ropes of her new faith.
Additionally, Farida had a lot to learn when it came to marriage. They were worlds apart—while Isaac had been raised in church all his life, Farida was raised a Muslim and had spent most of her time in the club.
Together with her band comprising of 17 members, Farida had entertained nations through music.
She toured the world to perform and with it came money, power and fame until her turning point in 2001.
Isaac too had to deal with Farida’s strong and independent personality. She was talkative and took over conversations while her hubby was an introvert.
Being a firstborn too and the fact that she was famous and independent made her domineering, something that made Isaac feel disrespected.
“It was not easy for her to adapt to being a pastor’s wife. And to assist in this, she got mentors and linked up with other pastor’s wives. She also read books on marriage,” he reveals.
Like most pastors wives, the Farida is fully involved in church. “It was challenging for her because she had to get used to the fact that I belong to her and also to the congregation.
Sometimes she felt sidelined when it came to getting attention from me,” recalls Isaac.
Farida had to learn how to balance between marriage and church, creating time for everything and also not importing office, or church issues to the house.
“We learnt to let church issues remain at church and home issues at home. We create time for everything and work with a schedule so as not to let one department suffer at the expense of the other,” he says.
Throughout their 15 years in marriage, Isaac has become a strong pillar and a support system to Farida. She handles young women while her husband deals with the young men.
In addition, they have a YouTube channel where they share ideas on marriage, a platform that has been used to restore many marriages.
“In the night clubs she would twist her waist and ‘destroy’ marriages. Now she is being used to save marriages,” Isaac adds.
The couple has two daughters aged 13 and nine years. Their names, according to Isaac, were inspired from Hebrew.
Their first born is called Shekinah which means the glory of God and the second one is called Hadassah which is Esther, favour or a star in Hebrew.
Proud parents
“Faridah is the disciplinarian. I’m always the last resort, for instance in situations such as finishing their homework, staying on their phones or making their room where sometimes it can be a challenge getting it done.
She always says that the kids fear me more than her. But at the end of the day, we try as much as we can to bring them up in the ways of the Lord,” says Isaac.
They are proud that their two children have featured on popular local programmes such as Real Househelps of Kawangware and on several commercials.
While the older one also doubles up as a model and dancer, the younger one is an upcoming comedian.
With the fame, they try as much as possible to ground their children so that they are not carried away.
“We keep reminding them to put God at the centre of everything, not to let fame get into their heads and to always be humble and kind to people,” he adds.
The love birds met in church, in the year 2001 when Farida had just made the drastic step of being a Christian.
She was serving in the worship team, was outgoing and loved attending crusades at Redeemed Gospel Church.
Isaac was in the protocol team. He became her mentor and eventually the two became one on November 27, 2004.
