Men invade ‘#NoBraDay’ campaign with sexual undertones

By , October 13, 2019

A social media campaign that was meant to spread awareness against breast cancer turned into a nasty crusade of some men indecently discussing women’s bodies.

Since 20111, No Bra Day is observed every year on October 13 where women are encouraged to forgo wearing a bra and show their support for breast cancer survivors.

However, on some social media spaces, users decided to use the opportunity to body shame some women and filling the crusade with sexual undertones.

Using the the hashtag #NoBraDay, a Twitter user with a female profile @Nimu Kiarie posted a photo of a woman’s breasts and asked other users to post theirs too.

Another user, Peter with a male profile responded to her Wairimu telling her to put the full picture. A series of replies to the conversation followed, with the majority of them by men asking ladies to follow suit and post theirs too. Notably, it was men asking for the photos to comment on the looks of the breasts.

Yet another user, @Patrick Njeru replied ‘Fallen soldiers’ and added a laughing emoji.

While the netizens might have been excited by the images of unsupported breasts, cancer is not something to joke about.

In some areas, people clad in purple clothes on such a day to show their solidarity in the battle against breast cancer. In Ghana, for instance, a local online publication indicated that some men posted pictures of themselves wearing purple shirts.
