Fun ranch day date
I have heard so many people, children included, wax lyrical about Chaka Ranch Leisure Park.
I always thought that the place is only fit for children and those among us who like indulging our inner child so not falling under either category, I never thought I should visit till a few weeks ago.
Located in Kiganjo, Nyeri County, Chaka Ranch is set on an expansive space between the breathtaking views of Mount Kenya and the Aberdares Mountain Range.
It is a two hours’ drive from Nairobi which means that one can visit and come back to the city if they wish.
One can also spend the night there as they have accommodation facilities.
Since I am not a solo traveler, I booked my trip with Elyzza Tours and Adventures Outfitters.
The best thing about traveling using an agency is that you get to enjoy massive discounts and you can also pay at your own pace. On D-Day, we left Nairobi at exactly 7:15 am.
The company insists that all attendees must keep time to ensure that the day’s program is not interrupted.
Our first stopover was at Karatina town where we took our breakfast before proceeding to our venue.
By 10:30 am we were at Chaka ranch where we were warmly received. We then proceeded with team-building activities.
We were free to participate in any kind of activity. The activities ranged from quad biking, go-karting, riding buggies, rock-wall climbing, paint-balling, among others.
I was shocked by the range of activities as I never thought that the place would have plenty of activities for adults.
I was torn between starting at the go-karts or the quad bikes. I decided on the quad ride on a whim.
There was a six kilometers racing circuit which was well marked to ensure one relies less on the instructor.
The best thing is that for newbies like me, they have instructors ready to teach anyone how to drive the quads.
It took me less than 10 minutes to figure it out and head out for my first unaided drive.
After the drive, I joined the rest of the team members at the pre-agreed meal time. However, we were massively disappointed by their slow service.
We waited for about an hour before our meat and accompaniments order was brought even though we made the order immediately after arrival, long before starting on the various activities.
The good thing is that the food was sumptuous. After lunch, more activities followed. Some people went skating, others went swimming, and others went paintballing.
I and a few others went for the go-karts. There were enough go-karts so we did not have to wait to take turns.
So after putting on the safety gear, one of the staff helped us get ready for the drive.
He was super friendly and funny something that made the experience better and more memorable.
Since there were few people at the go-kart place, we had all the time with the carts.
My day date with friends was generally memorable and my advice to those who would like to visit the ranch is that though it is a great place that has unique amenities whether you are traveling as a group or solo, go with lots of money as everything is highly-priced.
For activities, it is better to pay for the activities packages instead of per activity.
For kids, there’s plenty to keep them occupied. If you do not fancy day drives, they also offer accommodation at affordable rates.
You should however make sure you have something to whirl away the time in the evenings, as there are no televisions in the rooms. Create your own fun seems to be their running theme.
