Reconsider decision to make Mathematics optional under CBC

Many developed countries include mathematics as a compulsory subject in their education systems since it offers numerous benefits both in academia and daily life.
The recent decision by the Ministry of Education to remove mathematics as a compulsory subject in senior high school may undermine the foundation of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields, as these disciplines are interconnected.
Mathematics is essential in scientific fields, where it’s used for data analysis and medical research, among other applications. In technology, particularly computer science, mathematics plays a crucial role in algorithms and algebra for coding and Artificial Intelligence (AI).
Mathematics provides a fundamental background for STEM careers and increases access to high-paying job opportunities. The government, through the Ministry of Education, should reconsider the decision to make mathematics optional for students under the Competency Based Curriculum.
